Line Editing and Editorial Feedback can be added on to any submission to Midsummer Dream House. Types of submissions accepted for this include poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction, and memoir. Total word count per submission must be 8,000 words or under to be eligible for editorial feedback or line editing. Micro, flash works, and short stories are all accepted as long as they are within the word count limits. We accept submissions for editing on Submittable only. All editing and feedback is completed by the Editor-in-Chief.

To submit for editing and feedback, go to Submittable [click here], select the category that best fits your submission, and then choose an add-on.

Editorial Feedback

Editorial Feedback consists of 1-2 paragraphs. The goal of feedback is to identify areas of the text that can use improvement (if needed) and make suggestions for ways to improve the text(s) and/or highlight areas of the text that are working well. Example areas that are examined during a reading for Editorial Feedback: character development, plot, dialogue, narrative arc.

Line Editing

Line Editing consists of tracking changes, marks, and/or comments being placed directly on the piece that has been submitted. The number of line edits varies based on the length of the piece. The goal of line editing is to dive deeper into the text by highlighting specific areas that can be improved (if needed) and/or pointing out areas of the text that are working well. Example areas that are examined during a Line Editing reading: grammar, sentence structure, dialogue tags, spelling. Line Editing is used in conjunction with Editorial Feedback to pinpoint exact locations where edits can be made in relation to character development, plot, and so forth.
